Du projet à l'objet. Focus sur les arts appliqués

The School of Applied Arts of La Chaux-de-Fonds, one of the most important in Switzerland at the end of the 19th century, celebrates its 150 years. To mark the event and to present its art collection to the public, a partnership between several cultural and museum institutions of the canton was set up.

The Museum of Art and History has chosen to create a dialogue between its collections with those of the school in an exhibition that questions the making of an object, from its conception to its launch on the market, through its creation and production. This process will be exemplified through preparatory projects and landmark works in textiles, numismatics, goldsmithing, jewellery, ceramics, graphic design and glass. Chosen for their function, the context of their production or their creative and technical innovation, the objects will be presented from a contemporary perspective. Artists such as Clement Heaton or Charles L'Eplattenier or companies such as Huguenin Médailleurs or Suchard will punctuate the exhibition route.
