The MahN holds the largest public collection of Neuchâtel coinage, with over 1,900 coins issued by the Earldom, later Principality of Neuchâtel between the 14th century and the early 19th century. There is also a series of original dies used to mint these coins.

In addition, the MahN holds a great part of the coins found from the canton's territory, showing how money circulated throughout the region over time. Celtic staters and potins, Roman sestertii and asses (including the hoard found at Dombresson), mediaeval deniers and modern batzen bear witness to the enormous variety of currency that circulated in our regions from Antiquity to modern era.

Lastly, the Museum has acquired items from various major private and public Neuchâtel collections: a very diverse selection of coins from all over the world, dating from all eras and combining examples of all shapes, designs and materials.
